PURPOSE:To retrieve a data file at a high speed by retrieving the corresponding position information out of a retrieving data base by an executing means according to a retrieving program in a file retrieving mode and giving access to the corresponding file based on the retrieved position information. CONSTITUTION:An external memory 2 for data file is equal to an unrewritable disk file. An external memory 3 stored a retrieving data base containing a parameter showing the recording position on a medium of a data file. When a processor 1 starts an action based on a retrieving program, access is given to the memory 3 to search for the name of a desired data file as well as a parameter showing the recording position on the medium of the memory 2 out of the retrieving data base according to the retrieval information. When the processor 1 reads the desired data file out of the memory 2, said data file can be read out without searching for a control label of the desired data file since the recording position is already known on the medium.
