A preferred embodiment of the device is designed as a modular unit which can readily be combined with others of identical design to produce a solar powered battery panel for heating and cooling. It comprises a tubular enclosure defining a pair of chambers separated by a valve. A first chamber is packed with silica gel (or an equivalent adsorbent material) arranged such that mass and heat transfer through the gel take place rapidly and in comparable time periods. The first chamber is surrounded by a larger diameter, solar radiation transparent housing and the annular space between the chamber and housing is evacuated. The enclosure is mounted together with a diffuse light reflector which focuses sunlight toward the first chamber. |
