Catalyst of the type comprising an active phase consisting of at least one metal of the platinum group and at least one additional metal and a support obtained by mixing a binder and a filler coating a ceramic or metallic monolithic substrate, the process being of the type comprising the following stages: 1) mixing a filler, a binder and optionally a part of the active phase, 2) coating the substrate with the mixture, 3) drying and optionally calcining, 4) introduction of the remaining part of the active phase, 5) drying and then activation, characterised in that at least 50 % by weight added to the weight of the filler and of the binder consists of alumina obtained by carbonation of sodium aluminate with formation of a precipitate of amorphous alumina gel, washing this precipitate and optionally drying.
