<p>Tertiary alcohols are prepared by reacting an ester with 2 moles of a single Grignard cpd. or two different Grignard cpds. obtained from 2 moles of an aromatic monohalogen cpd., or by reacting an ester with 1 mole of a Grignard cpd. obtained from a dihalogen cpd. consisting of two monohalogenated aromatic rings at the ortho-ortho position with respect to the bonding between the aromatic groups. The pref. esters are esters of aliphatic amino-acids in which the hydrogen atom of the amino-group can opt. be substd. by aliphatic grps. or by heterocyclic grps., which can be wholly or partially hydrogenated or substd. The method is applicable to the prepn. of known drugs such as amitriptyline, nor- and protriptyline.</p> |
