PURPOSE:To provide correct color reproduction by arranging horizontal picture element string that generate the color carrier component of (R+B) and one that generates said component of (R-B) or the one that generates (said component of (B-R) in every other line. CONSTITUTION:The horizontal picture element strings in which the elements of spectral characteristics of W and G are alternatingly allied and that in which the elements of spectral characteristics of Ye and Cy are likewise allied, are piled alternatingly with a blank row vertically in every other line. In the blank row, the picture elements having characteristics of E and F are arranged alternately and horizontally. The output 100 of a solid pick-up element is inputted to LPF 42 and BPF 43. In an adder 47, signals 300 and signals 400 are added, and red-color modulation signals 500 are separated. These red-color modulation signals 500 are inputted to a detector 49 and detected, and are converted to red signals 600 to be inputted to an encoder 44. A subtracter 48 subtracts the signals 300from the signals 400 to separate blue-color modulation signals 700.
