PURPOSE:To set freely a suppressing level of the low chroma saturation and the alteration quantity of the suppressing degree by adjusting a low chroma saturation slice level in the color difference signal and adjusting a mixing ratio of the sliced color difference signal and the non-sliced color difference signal. CONSTITUTION:On one side, after a color difference signal R-Y is sliced by a slice circuit 1-1, the signal is gain-controlled at a gain control circuit 1-2, and supplied to a mixing circuit 1-4 as an (a) signal. On the other hand, the color difference signal R-Y is added to a gain control circuit 1-3 without passing through a slice circuit and supplied to the mixing circuit 1-4 as the output (b) signal. By mixing the (a) signal and (b) signal by the mixing circuit 1-4, (R-Y)' having a non-linear characteristic is obtained, and even when dispersion exists at a low chroma saturation coloring characteristic and a color shade, the color difference signal characteristic having good reproducibility can be obtained by adjusting the mixing ratio.
