PURPOSE:To make possible simple permanent connection with a low loss by providing internally a film for cladding near the central part on the inside surface of a sort resinous pipe, providing a pipe reinforcing bar along the outside surface of the pipe and coating both with a heat shrinkable tube thereby constituting a connecting jig for optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The coating at the top ends of two optical fibers 5 is removed and the top ends are inserted into the pipe 1 in which the end faces 6 are butted to each other. A transparent photosensitive resin 7 having the refractive index equal to the refractive index of the core layer of the fibers 5 is preliminarily coated on the end faces 6. The heat shrinkable tube 4 are heated in this state to be thermally shrunk, by which the fibers 5 are fixed. A film 2 for cladding is compressed by the heat shrinkable tube and is gnawed between the end faces 6 of the optical fibers. The unnecessary part of the photosensitive resin is extruded by the butted fibers 5 and the film 2 and only the necessary amt. thereof remains. UV rays are irradiated to the jig to cure the photosensitive resin and the connection is completed. The simple permanent connection with the low loss is made possible by using such connecting jig. |
