PURPOSE:To enhance catalytic activity and to inexpensively prepare the titled particle, by applying a metal to carbonaceous particles comprising carbon black, activated carbon or graphite by chemical plating treatment to mold a metal supported particle. CONSTITUTION:A tin ion or palladium ion being an activated catalyst is adsorbed by a carbonaceous particle comprising carbon black, activated carbon or graphite and the ion adsorbed particle is separated from a solution by filtering and washed with water and, if necessary, treated with an aqueous sulfuric acid solution to activate the carbonaceous particle. The activated carbonaceous particle is washed with water and treated in a plating solution containing a salt of a metal to be plated, for example, copper sulfate or nickel sulfate. Subsequently, the chemically plated particle is washed with water and dried to obtain a metal supported particle. The particle size of the metal supported by the surface of the metal supported particle is about 0.5-100mmu.
