The invention comprises monoazo dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R is an alkyl radical with 1-4 carbon atoms; R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl or alkoxy alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms; R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen, or the radical -COR<SP>111</SP> where R<SP>111</SP> is an alkyl or alkoxy radical having 1-4 carbon atoms; and Y is hydrogen, or an alkoxy radical with 1-4 carbon atoms. Preferred dyes are of the general formula wherein X is methyl or ethyl. The dyes are prepared conventionally by diazotization and coupling and are suitable for the dyeing of hydrophobic materials especially aromatic polyesters. They are also suited for dyeing mixed polyester/cotton fabrics in combination with reactive dyestuffs from an alkaline bath or according to the thermasol process (see Example 2). |
