PURPOSE:To enable automatic restrieval regardless of the size and kind of the blip mark by providing a means to produce a criterion value when a difference of the size of blip mark beyond the tolerance exists between two frames. CONSTITUTION:A blip mark width detector F2 outputs a certain number of pulses corresponding to the size of the blip mark of the roll film. A comparating part F4 decides the size by comparing the output of the detector F2 and the threshold level set by a threshold deciding part F5. The deciding part F5 compares the output pulse number of the last outputting with that of the immediately precident one from the detector F2. When the difference exceeds the tolerance set beforehand, the average of the two numbers, for instance, is outputted as a threshold level to the comparating part F4. Also, the deciding part F5, during the time until the threshold level is set, outputs a counting command in place of the comparating part F4. A counting output control F10, until the threshold is set, outputs the counting command from the deciding part F5, and, after the setting, outputs the command from the comparator F4 to a counting part F9.
