PURPOSE:To arrange only one detecting element, the 2nd detecting element, on the optical system side, i.e. the copying machine body side by relatively moving the 1st and 2nd detecting elements constituting a detecting means. CONSTITUTION:Light emitting elements l1-l3 are the 1st detecting elements of a original size detector and a photodetecting element L is the 2nd detecting element arranged on the side of a main lens 27 close to the optical path of an optical system 2. An original setting board 3 is provided with an original setting board 31 having a platen glass, an original cover device 32 and an original positioning scale 33 and arranged so as to be reciprocated on a guide rail 34. The number of light emitting elements sensed by the photodetecting element L is measured by a control means to detect the size of an original P. Namely, the size of the original P can be detected by measuring the number of light emitting elements sensed by the photodetecting element L during the movement of the device 3 on the guide rail 34 from the right end to the left end.
