PURPOSE:To make a tool change system simplifiable even if there are plural types in a tool setting direction, by installing a tool magazine which provides at least more than two types of tool charging parts having different tool setting directions. CONSTITUTION:A tool changer 3, holding tools Ti and To and performing their positional change, is installed in position between a lathe 1 and a tool magazine unit 2. Here, a peripheral side surface 14a of a rotary magazine 14 installed in the tool magazine unit 2 constitutes a tool charging part of the tool Ti for inner diameter use, while a front surface 14b of the magazine constitutes another tool charging part of the tool To for outer diameter use, respectively. And, the tool changer 3 is constituted of a transfer machine block 36 made free of movement on a machine block frame 7 by a rail 35 in a Y-axis direction, a pair of expansion arm devices 38 and a gripper 6. Here, these expansion arm devices 38 are attached onto an oblong swivel setting plate, and operated for expansion or contraction by hydraulic cylinders being set up in parallel.
