摘要
1,249,222. Transistor automatic gain control Circuits. R.C.A. CORPORATION. 14 Jan., 1969 [17 Jan., 1968], No. 2072/69. Headings H3T and H4R. A gain-controllable amplifier comprises a transistor with its collector-emitter path connected to output terminals and having variable insertion loss means connected for coupling input signals across the series connection of the base-emitter junction and a variable impedance; a gain control signal is applied to control the variation of the variable insertion loss means and also the variable impedance, in such a manner that at first the variable insertion loss means is not varied while the variable impedance means progressively degenerates the signal gain of the transistor, and for further reduction of gain the attenuation provided by the variable loss means is increased. Emitterfollower 28 is coupled to the base of transistor 12 in cascode pair 12, 14 via an attenuator comprising the collector to emitter path of transistor 26. Transistor 12 is emitter-coupled to a further transistor 36, the common emitter load comprising resistor 42 shunted by diode 40. An automatic gain control voltage is applied to the base-of transistor 30, the collector of which, together with base of transistor 28 is biased to the fixed potential 3V be , and the emitter potential of which controls the base potentials of transistors 26, 36 via resistor 34 and diode 38 respectively. At maximum gain, transistor 30 is biased to be saturated, its emitter current then causing transistor 26 to be conductive and of low impedance and also transistor 36 to conduct, rendering diode 40 conductive whereby it is of low impedance, so that negative feedback in the amplifier 12, 14 is at a minimum. As transistor 30 is biased back, transistor 26 at first remains conductive, while the reduction in current caused in transistor 36 causes diode 40 to be rapidly cut-off, whereby negative feedback in amplifier 12, 14 increases until it is controlled by the emitter circuit impedance of transistor 36. Beyond this point, transistor 26 is increasingly biased back and provides additional attenuation.
