Heat shrinkage tube(2), partic. for encapsulating a splice(1) between optical fibres(3), is heated more quickly at its centre and only progressively towards its ends using a single heating device (7,8,9) in parallel with the tube having a corresponding thermal distrubution, i.e. being hotter at its centre. The heater (7,8,9) is pref. a wire resistance element in the form of a helical coil or of saw-toothed shape. Also, the heater is associated with temp. measuring equipment. |
