PURPOSE:To stabilize the output of an engine by making the swirl in the cylinder in communication to a divergent suction passage, wherein the suction flow speed is fast, weaker than the swirl in the cylinder in communication to divergent suction passage wherein the suction flow speed is slow, and thereby accomplishing torque balance over the cylinders. CONSTITUTION:In this multi-cylinder engine 1, a plurality of divergent suction passages 3a-3d of the suction manifold 4 are in communication with the cylinders 5a-5d. The primary suction passage 7 at each divergent suction passage 3a-3d is normally open in such an arrangement that the direction is approx. tangential to the suction port 9 so as to form a swirl producing means 10. As a means to suppress swirling, a flow-through hole 15 of an appropriate size for passage of mixture gas is opened in aux. throttle valves 12a, 12d in the divergent suction passages 3a, 3d in communication with No.1 and No.4 cylinders wherein the suction flow speed is fast. This will make even the combusting state, which is otherwise likely to differ due to unevenness of the filling efficiency for some part of each divergent suction passage 3a-3d. |
