A sliding door or window comprises a leaf mounted on a pair of rollers 15, 20 having perpendicular axes, and carrying a pivotable stay 8 itself carrying a further roller 7. Rollers 15, 20 are carried on a chock 14 on the bottom of sash 1, and stay 8 is pivoted on pin 12 to the top of the sash. To open the sash, the bottom of the sash is moved inwardly perpendicularly to its plane on rollers 15 until stop 16 strikes abutment 18 on rail 19. The top of the sash is then moved inwardly until roller 7 has entered guide rail 9 and stay 8 has pivoted till its free end 13 engages frame 3. This positions roller 20 in groove 22 in rail 19 and the sash may be moved in its own plane on roller 20. (For Figure see next column) |
