<p>Scratch-resistant coatings are produced with a lacquer obtd. by hydrolytic precondensation of (a) Ti or Zr cpd(s). of the formula MR4 (I); M = Ti or Zr; R = halogen, OH, alkoxy, acyloxy or a chelate ligand; which is soluble in the reaction medium; (b) organo-functional silane(s) of the formula R'm(R''Y)nSiX(4-m-n) (II); R' = alk(en)yl, opt. with -O-, -S- or -NH- in the chain; R'' = alk(en)ylene, opt. with -O-, -S- or -NH- in the chain; X = H, halogen, OH, alkoxy, acyloxy or -NR'''2; R''' = H and/or alkyl; Y = halogen or an opt. substd. amino, amido, aldehyde, alkylcarbonyl, carboxy, SH, CN, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, sulphonic acid, phosphoric acid, (meth)acryloxy, epoxy or vinyl gp.; m and n = 0, 1, 2 or 3; m + n = 1, 2 or 3; and opt. (c) hardly volatile oxide(s) of gp. IA-VA or IVB or VB element(s), except Ti and Zr, which is soluble in the reaction medium or cpd(s). forming these under the reaction conditions. - Precondensation is carried out with less than the stoichiometric amt. of water needed for complete hydrolysis of the hydrolysable gps., opt. in the presence of a condensation catalyst; and then further condensation by addn. of at least the amt. of water needed for hydrolysis of the remaining hydrolysable gps. and opt. a condensation catalyst. The total molar number of the starting components is 5-70, pref. 20-40 mole-% (a), 30-95, pref. 40-80 mole-% (b) and 0-65, pref. 0-40 mole-% (c). The coating is produced by applying this lacquer to a substrate and hardening.</p> |
