PURPOSE:To utilize an ink ribbon effectively without wastage by a method in which a blank portion is detected in advance, a thermal printing head is passed in a not-pressing manner on an ink ribbon deemed to have a blank portion, the ink ribbon is rolled back to the ending position of blank portion, and the head is pressed on the ribbon to continue transfer recording. CONSTITUTION:A thermal printing head 5 with a given heating element heated on the basis of a printing information is pressed on an ink ribbon 4 to transfer numerals 1-4 onto a recording paper 2 for recording. The head 5 and ribbon 4 are moved by as much a distance as five letters in a blank portion 12 toward the right side of a platen 1. In this case, the ribbon is rolled up by as much a distance as five letters toward the directions of arrow D by spools 3A and 3B. Afterwards, the head 5 is pressed on the ribbon 4 for transfer recording of numerals 5-9, and the head 5 is moved in the direction of arrow C by gears, etc. While moving the head 5 from the right end to the left end of the platen, the rotary spools 3A and 3B are turned in the direction of arrow B, and used ribbon is rolled up. |
