Method permits multicoloured detergent bars to be mfd. from a single detergent feedstock. The feedstock is divided temporally or spatially and to part is added a visually distinct liq. which is miscible with the detergent base. Various arrangements are possible. In a single refiner/plodder system, as in the side view of Figure 1, the liq. supplied to the hopper (4) would be pulsed to give two feed stocks alternately. If the side view were of a twin refiner then the hopper (4) would have a partition (12) as in Figure 2. The miscible liq. is fed through the pipe (13) to one set of detergent chips and not the other as they pass to the extruder screws (11). Efficient mixing in the vacuum chamber (2) of the material coming from the refiner plate (5) would be more necessary in the former case before the noodles reach the screws of the plodder (3). A degree of re-work material from the stamping section can be used with either system.
