<p>In a domestic appliance, such as a washing machine, which is controlled by a solid state processor 1, failure of the mains supply causes the loss of program-identifying data held in the processor store. A back-up non-volatile store 11 keeps track of the program status and enables the program to be continued from where it left off in the event of an interruption of the power supply. The arrangement is such that possible corruption of the store contents by a hostile environment is minimal.</p> |
