Relaxation agents for modifying contrast in medical imaging by n.m.r. comprise a complex of (1) a paramagnetic element, i.e. a lanthanide (Ln) or a transition metal of atomic no. 21-29 or 42-44 and (2) a biologically active ligand (L), opt. coupled to a biologically active molecule, which is specific for an organ or a particular pathological state. - 16 Classes of cpds. (L) are claimed; these include polyamines; porphyrins; myoinositol hexaphosphoric acid (V); phosphines; aminopolycarboxylic acids; bleomycines (opt. coupled to an organic complexing agent); enterobactin (X) and its carbocyclic analogue, and siloxanes. |
