Prodn. of spheroidal graphite cast iron

Prodn. of cast iron with spheroidal graphite is carried out by adding metallic magnesium to bring about the spheroidisation with the presence of a slag contg. sulphur and stabilising the latter by converting the magnesium sulphide into a thermodynamically more stable sulphide such as calcium or cerium sulphide. - The additive may be CaSi, a mixture of Ca metal, Ce metal and MgFl2 or Ca, calcium aluminate and CaCl2.
