Aromatic monoamines (A) are isolated in pure or enriched form from a mixt. of at least 2 such cpds. by first partitioning in a 2-phase system of (1) a hydrophobic solvent, opt. contg. the (A) which is to be recovered (at least partly in protonated form) as an aq. soln., and (2) an aq. soln. of strong acid (less than the total stoichiometric amt. of amines present), opt. contg. the (A) which is to be recovered as a soln. in hydrophobic solvent. The phases are sepd. and opt. the organic phase extracted again with an aq. acid phase, and/or the aq. phase extracted again with a hydrophobic solvent.
