PURPOSE:To obtain an optical glass body prevented from generation of bubbles by heating and sintering a porous gel having a low bulk density obtd. by the hydrolysis of metal alkoxide compsn. contg. a specified additive. CONSTITUTION:A liquid mixture of starting material 1 prepd. by mixing 1mol metal alkoxide compsn. consisting of >=two kinds of alkoxides having different hydrolyzing velocity to each other but consisting of a same element [e.g. Si(OCH3)4 and Si(OC2H5)4, etc.], contg. an additive such as germanium alkoxide, etc. with 3-6mol aq. ammonia having 0.01-0.1mol/l ammonia concn., and 3-6mol alcoholic solvent (e.g. ethanol), is transferred to a vessel 2. The vessel is closed tightly and gelled 4 by allowing the liquid mixture to stand, then the gelled product is hydrolyzed to obtain a porous gel 5 having a low bulk density. The gel 5 is then sintered by heating to cause vitrification, thus, a block 6 of an oxide of a transparent optical body is obtd. |
