MANUFACTURE OF LEAD-STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To improve the life characteristics of a lead-storage battery by welding the external wall plates of the battery casing which are in contact with the surfaces of both end plate groups after all the plate groups have been inserted into the casing. CONSTITUTION:Separate external wall plates 11 are welded by ultrasonic welding to a battery casing 7 without the plates 11 which are to be in contact with the surfaces of both end plate groups after all plate groups have been inserted into the casing 7. It is desirable to weld the plates 11 under such a pressure that the group pressure of the plate groups exceeds 20kg/cm<2>. This enables a lead-storage battery with a high group pressure to be obtained by a simple procedure, that is, enables the one with excellent life characteristics to be obtained efficiently. Further, the group pressure can be easily adjusted only by changing the thickness of each of the external wall plates 11.
