Electro-acoustic transducer

An ultrasonic transducer is described which has an elliptical diaphragm and an elliptical piezoelectric ceramic body. Through this shape, which differs from conventional designs, a directional characteristic can be achieved in such a way that a small beamwidth is measured in one plane whereas, in a plane perpendicular to it, a much larger beamwidth of the radiated sound is measured.
