Cellulosic strip on a continuous felt is compressed between 2 rollers. The roller contacting the felt has a plastics rubber or similar coating on its whole contact surface; the coating has many small orifices through it, of dimensions appropriate for capillary retention of liquid expressed from the felt. The liquid is later extracted by a fixed low-pressure chamber, of which one wall is part of the contact surface of the roller.
