The reactance switch has a switching point (for example 1) which is arranged between a high-voltage reactance (4) and a high-voltage line (3). The occurrence of flashback oscillations with unacceptably high voltage changes is intended to be prevented when this switch is being switched off, in a simple and reliable manner. This is achieved in that the switching point (for example 1) is connected in parallel with a voltage-dependent resistor (5). This resistor (for example 5), which preferably contains a metal oxide, such as zinc oxide, has a current/voltage characteristic which limits the returning voltage via the switching point (for example 1) in such a manner that the gradient of the voltage change of a high-frequency flashback oscillation occurring during a flashback of the switching point (for example 1) on the reactance (4) is always less than a limiting value. <IMAGE>
