A device for holding precious stones, especially a diamond setting, and for fixing the stones in the recesses of thin-walled regions of pieces of jewellery is intended to provide a solution to the problem of holding precious stones, especially diamonds in an aesthetically pleasing manner in such thin-walled regions of pieces of jewellery. This is achieved in that the setting is designed as an essentially cylindrical element (1) having inwardly pointing regions (7, 9) to overlap the edge of the precious stone (8) and with outwardly pointing regions (10, 11) to overlap the edge regions of the recess (17) in question. <IMAGE>
