In the construction of a bridge, a superstructure supporting framework is supported at the front on a travelling and lowering scaffold 7 and connected rigidly to the latter in the longitudinal direction and transverse direction. The scaffold is arranged on an auxiliary bridge in front of the front end of the supporting framework. In this case, the rear part of the supporting framework is mounted unrotatably on as wide a base as possible on a follower or a rear travelling or lowering scaffold and is drawn along on the back of the already complete bridge superstructure until the lowering position is reached. The front scaffold is then rigidly connected to a jib boom of the auxiliary bridge or to a bridge pillar, whereupon the horizontal connection to the supporting framework is released. Subsequently, the supporting framework is lowered into its final position via lowering devices. Finally, the auxiliary bridge is advanced further by a bay length while the front scaffold remains on a pillar and there awaits the arrival of the next supporting framework.
