摘要 A crosslinked woven cellulosic fabric having improved tensile strength is produced by subjecting the yarns of the warp or weft yarn system of the fabric (the tensile strength of which is to be improved) while in the moist condition to a tension to effect stretching the yarns during stretching being in a substantially straight line form and drying the fabric while under this tension, prior to cross-linking the cellulosic materials of the yarns by reaction with a chemical cross-linking agent. The stretching may be effected after impregnating the fabric with the cross linking agent, the fabric then being dried under tension and heated in a stenter frame to effect curing or the stretching may be combined with the drying usually effected after bleaching. Stretching in the weft may be effected by means of a pin stenter, the fabric being fed at an acute angle of for example 20-30 DEG to the plane of frame so that the fabric is shrunk in the direction of the warp and stretching effected in the weft. Clip stenters may be used which comprise means for introducing the fabric with overfeed on to the front part of the stenter, e.g. two rollers with intermeshing grooves between which the fabric is guided and neatly folded thereby. If stretching of the warp filaments is to be effected longitudinal tension may be obtained by means of a pair of tension rollers provided between the padding machine in which the fabric is impregnated with the cross-linking agent and the stenter frame which rotate about 6-8% faster than the impregnation padding machine. The cross linking agent may be an acetal produced from formaldehyde and diethylene glycol, dimethylolmethyl carbamate, dimethylol ethylene urea, dihydroxyethylene urea or propylene urea, 1, 3-dimethylol-5-hydroxyethyl perhydrotriazone-2, dimethylolurea, tetramethylol melamine, an etherified methylol melamine, the diglycidol ether of ethylene glycol, formaldehyde, glyoxal or glutaraldehyde, which may be applied with or without acid or alkaline catalysts, e.g. zinc nitrate or zinc chloride. Fabrics comprising cotton, regenerated cellulose or cellulose derivative fibres alone or in admixture with other natural or synthetic fibres may be treated. The treated fabric may be used in the manufacture of shirts.
