1309446 Laminates BREVETEAM SA 21 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 19007/70 Heading B5N A flexible sheet material having a metallic light reflecting surface on one face and presenting a network of connected strips formed by a pattern of closely arranged slits cut through the whole thickness of the sheet material, comprises an upper layer having metallic light reflecting properties secured to a backing sheet made of a heat-shrinkable plastics material, the strips between the slits having curled-down edges with the light reflecting face on the convex side, the curling of the strips being caused by a shrinkage effect induced in the backing sheet after slitting the upper layer may be of aluminium foil or of copper, brass, tin, bronze, zinc or lead and the backing sheet may be of stretched polyethylene foamed sheet. The metal surface may be covered by a net of plastics material and the layers may be bonded together by pressing. Slits are cut through the whole thickness of the compound sheet material in a direction transverse to that of the shrinkage of the backing sheet. Heat shrinkage may be effected by means of radiant heat and a fibre fleece bonded on to the backing sheet during the heat shrinkage. The sheet material may be used in the manufacture of garments and curtain materials. |
