Combination selective mechanisms.-A keyboard providing coded output comprises keys 11 pivotable about axes 17 and each operating on depression to shift a corresponding setter plate 22 longitudinally so that code projections 83, 84 on the plate 22 overlie cooling vanes 86, the longitudinal movement of the plate acting through a universal bar 69 to activate a onerevolution clutch (61, Figs. 1, 3) and thereby to initiate rotation of a shaft 59 whereby universal bars 44, 45, now engaged in recesses 42, 43 of the plate, urge the plate downwardly to set the vanes 86 according to the code projections 83, 84 on the plate 22. The vanes 86 position ferromagnetic levers (103, Figs. 1, 4, 5) with respect to permanent magnets (104) and corresponding reed switches (106) to produce a coded electrical output when a further ferromagnetic lever (134) is operated through a lever 52 acting on a further lever (118) to rotate a shaft 112. The plate 22 is returned by the upward return movement of the bars 44, 45 and rightward movement of a universal bar 79. Interlocks between keys.-If two keys 11 are depressed simultaneously, code projections 83, 84 on the respective corresponding plates 22 will act against each other so that the respective vane 86 takes up an orientation parallel to the plates 22 and limits the downward travel thereof. The shaft 112 is then not rotated so no output signal is issued, and furthermore the keyboard is locked by continued engagement of the lever (118) with a lug 121 of the lever 52 and consequential maintenance of the bar 46 in engagement with the recess 43 of the plates 22. The keyboard may be unlocked by a further key (14, Fig. 3). |
