[Also in Division F4] The mating surfaces of a supporting part and a supported part (e.g. a foundation supporting a machine or a bearing pad supporting a tank) having manufacturing irregularities causing gaps between the surfaces, have the gaps filled with liquid plastics material (e.g. an epoxy resin reinforced with quartz powder) which then sets. In the embodiment shown a fabricated tank 11 is supported by a block 9, which has a machine sliding interface with another block 2 supported by the structure 1. Each block 2, 9 has a passage 6 through which liquid plastics is introduced to gaps 13, 14 ensured by raised corners 3 on each block. The position of the block 2 is adjusted by wedges 5 prior to the introduction of the liquid plastics. To assist in the distribution of liquid plastics the block 9 is provided with shallow grooves 10 facing the gap 13. |
