摘要 PURPOSE:To attain uniform color formation, superior durability and high speed coloration and decoloration by forming a thin vapor deposited film essentially composed of a specified ternary solid soln. or eutectic in multilayer films formed on the surface of an optical material and further, forming a thin alumina film on one or both sides of said film. CONSTITUTION:The thin film 11 made of the ternary solid-soln. or eutectic represented by the formula Ag-Cu-X, X being Cl, Br, or I, prepared by the vapor deposition method in the multilayer films formed on the surface of the optical material 10, and the thin alumina film 12, or the thin alumina films 21, 23 are formed on both sides of the thin ternary film 22. Satisfactory photochromic performance is obtained by forming such a ternary solid soln. or eutectic film 11, 22. The presence of the alumina film or films permits the photochromic performance to be enhanced and its protection and scratch resistance to be improved at the same time, and these films are used for lenses of spectacles and other optical materials, and window glasses, etc.
