PURPOSE:To obtain the titled member having a prolonged life by combining a dispersed phase consisting of TiN and VC with a binding phase having a martensite type structure under specified conditions to form a cermet substrate and by forming a specified very hard coating layer of Ti on the surface of the cermet substrate. CONSTITUTION:The cermet substrate is formed by combining a dispersed phase consisting of particles D1 of TiN or the like having <=5mum average particle size and particles D2 of VC or the like having <=5mum average particle size with the binding phase of a hardened and tempered alloy having the martensite type structure and consisting of, by weight, 3.5-6% Cr, 4-20% W+Mo, 3-6% V, 2-15% Co or Co+Ni (Ni/Co+Ni<=3), 0.5-2.0% C and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The composition of the cermet substrate consists of 5-20vol% D1, 5-30vol% D2 and the balance binding phase. A very hard coat ing layer of Ti or the like having >=2,000kg/mm<2>Vickers scale Hv and 1-10mum thickness is formed on the surface of the cermet substrate to obtain the surface coated cermet member. |
