PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material having improved properties in terms of picture stability, ground whiteness, color-forming property, and chemical resistance by a method in which a thermal color-forming layer composed of a leuco dye and a specific phenolic compound as a developer is provided on a supporter, and a high polymer protective layer containing Si-modified polyvinyl alcohol is provided on the thermal color-forming layer. CONSTITUTION:A developer used includes a phenolic compound of the general formula (I), where R is a C2-C10 alkylene group with 1-3 ether bonds, and a protective layer to be formed is composed primarily of a Si-modified polyvinyl alcohol. The deterioration of chemical resistance of the developer in high-humid conditions, although the ground coloring degree and the color-forming property of the developer are excellent, can be eliminated by the formation of the protec tive layer with the Si-modified polyvinyl alcohol. As a leuco dye used as a thermal color-forming layer component, leuco dye compounds of triphenyl methane series, fluoran series, etc., may be used. |
