A rotary machine, pump or motor of the sliding blade type, comprising an outer housing 2, Figs. 1 and 2, within which is mounted a rotor 7 surrounded by an inner housing 1 transversely displaceable with respect to the rotor axis to vary the displacement volume of the machine and permit reversal flow of the operating medium, in which the inner housing is pivotally mounted in the outer housing by means of two hollow trunnions which include the inlet to and outlet from the machine. As shown, hollow trunnions 5, 6 integral with the inner housing 1 are pivotally mounted in end covers 3, 4 of the outer housing 2 and formed with inlet and outlet channels 14, 15. The inner housing is formed with lugs 29, 30 through which passes a pin 31 movable by means of a pneumatic or hydraulic piston and cylinder 34, 35. A centralizing spring 39 abutting at its ends a loose disc 55 and a sleeve 36 returns the housing 1 to its neutral position when no pressure fluid is applied to either one or other side of the piston 34. End plates 20, 21 prevent axial movement of the inner housing which would otherwise result from axial thrust produced by the operating medium and adjustable stops 42, 43 prevent excessive transverse movement of the inner housing. Guide rings 44 Fig. 7 fitted in recesses on each side of the rotor 7 and in the blades 12 to ensure synchronous movement of the blades. Each blade slot 48, Fig.6, is formed on either side of the blade with a plurality of recesses 49, 50 which co-operate with bores 51 through the blades. The bores 51 open into pockets 52 loosely mounting plates 53 which are moved by differential pressure acting on the opposite of the blades so that irrespective of flow direction of the operating medium the blades are urged sealingly outwardly into engagement with the cylindrical surface 13.</p> |
