A nozzle holder, carrying at least one inlet nozzle is mounted within the bore of a hollow body between a liquid inlet and abutment. The or each inlet nozzle is dimensioned and arranged so that the radial cross-section of the flow of liquid through a mixing chamber between the nozzle holder and outlet (16, 17) at the other end of the bore from the liquid inlet is smaller than the cross-section of the mixing chamber. Particulate abrasive material is therefore sucked into the mixing chamber, where it mixes with the liquid, through passages which extend through the hollow body along axes which are convergent with the axis of liquid flow through the mixing chamber.
