The invention relates to a method for determining whether a tracked vehicle 10 is passing over or to the side of a measurement point where a 3-axis vibration sensor 12, such as a speed or acceleration sensor, is buried or fixed in the ground at the surface of the ground 11, so that it senses the particle movement of the ground in three directions x, y, z at right angles to one another. The output signals of the vibration sensor 12 are sampled at regular time intervals and the three signal samples taken in each sampling operation are combined to form a resultant vector which indicates the movement of the ground at the measurement point in terms of magnitude and direction. According to the invention, the directional constancy of the resultant vector, which means its tendency to lie in one and the same direction from sample to sample during a given time interval, is monitored, and a mine 14 located at the measurement point is tripped in the event of an abrupt reduction in directional constancy. An explosion is triggered in the event of a change to a more non-uniform movement of the resultant vector. In order to obtain a measurement of directional constancy, what is known as the cross product between two consecutive resultant movement vectors can be calculated, and the mean value of a number of such cross products can be formed over a given time interval in order to obtain what is known as a normal vector for a mean plane for the movement of the vector, a reduction in the directional constancy of this normal vector triggering an explosion. <IMAGE> |
