PURPOSE:To obtain a bunch type optical transmission body having a high transmission characteristic without having the deformation and strength deterioration, etc. of optical fibers by welding the optical fibers to each other via the glass layers provided in the grooves between the adjacent parts of the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The preform rods 15a, 15b of the optical fibers 5a, 5b are glass layers 16a, 16b for cores consisting of quartz and glass layers 17a, 17b for clads. The rods 15a 15b are bundled so as to be circumscribed and pulverous glass particles are sprayed into the grooves 18 between the adjacent parts to deposit and form the porous glass layers consisting of doped quartz which are then heated to be vitrified transparent glass. The rods 15a, 15b are thus welded and united by the glass layer 19. The united rods 15a, 15b are spun and are coated to form a coating layer 10. The layer 19 supports the clads to suppress the deformation of the clads when the rods are spun. |
