<p>PURPOSE:To improve displaying and driving characteristics by forming orientation control films consisting of a compsn. contg. an org. zirconium compd. and org. resin on at least one of a pair of substrates. CONSTITUTION:The plastic substrates 1 consist of plastic such as polyethylene terephthalate and electrodes 2 consisting of transparent conductive films of tin oxide, etc. are provided on the substrates 1 by means such as vapor deposition. The orientation control films 3 are formed by using a coating liquid contg. an org. zirconium compd. and org. resin on the substrates 1 on which the electrodes 2 are formed. The org. zirconium compd. of a chelate type such as Zr(CH3COCHCOCH3)4 is preferable in terms of orientation performance for a smectic liquid crystal 6 or film formability or handling. The concn. of the org. zirconium and org. resin in the coating liquid is preferably about 1-10wt% and an alcohol solvent such as methanol is used as the solvent for the coating liquid. The thickness of the film 3 is preferably about 500-2,000Angstrom .</p> |
