Human hepatitis A virus (HAV) can be purified by a process in which base inoculum batches of strain HM-175 of hepatitis A virus are produced from triple-cloned virus by final dilution at a pass level of ca. 20 or preferably at least 20-30. Tested clones caused only minimal hepatitis, or none at all, although significant antibody reaction developed in inoculated male animals. The invention also concerns a process for producing triple-cloned vaccine.
