PURPOSE:To reduce fuel cost by selecting a speed change position being probable for permitting a vehicle to travel while maintaining a vehicle speed at that time, measuring each fuel cost at a selected speed change position to edge a speed change position with lowest fuel cost, whereby performing speed change control. CONSTITUTION:In the captioned control device wherein a vehicle speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor 6 is stored in a constant speed travel control device 5 as a target vehicle speed, and a speed control signal S3 is issued to an internal combustion engine 1 to maintain a target vehicle speed, a plurality of speed change positions enabling a vehicle to be travelled at a target vehicle speed at that time to be selected by selection means 8 disposed in a control device 4 upon constant speed travelling control. In succession, switching data for use in switching the operation of the vehicle to a selected speed change position every prescribed time is issued from switching data output means 9. Then, after fuel cost measurement means 11 for each speed change position of a speed change gear 2 being switched in conformity with the switching data, a speed change position assuring best fuel cost is judged by judgement means 12 for controlling the speed change in concern. |
