PURPOSE:To obtain propionic acid from a culture material advantageously, by cultivating a fungus belonging to the genus Candida, capable of producing propionic acid, by the use of CH3OH as a carbon source. CONSTITUTION:The fungus such as Candida boidinii A-1917-3 (FERM P-7853) is cultivated in a medium containing CH3OH as a carbon source. An organic ammonium salt, etc. is used as a nitrogen source of the medium, and, if necessary, various phosphates, sulfate, etc. may be used as an inorganic substance. The cultivation is carried out usually for about 12hr-14 days under aerobic conditions. The pH of the medium is 4-10, and the temperature is about 20-40 deg.C. In collecting and purifying the aimed substances, a method applicable to collection and purification of organic compounds can be generally employed. |
