PURPOSE:To increase multiple reflection in a columnar rod made of a light transmissive material by a method which is realized with small-sized, easy-to- manufacture constitution and to improve mixing by decreasing the sectional area of the lengthwise intermediate part of the rod gradually and thus forming a constricted part. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate part of the columnar rod 1 made of quartz is made thin to form the constricted part, the flank shape is curved smoothly to form a sandglass shape on the whole, and the flank and both end surfaces of the rod 1 are worked into specular surfaces so that light is not reflected. The angle of incidence and angle of reflection of a light beam on the boundary surface between a core and air are equal to each other, so the frequency of total reflection increases greatly nearby the constricted part. Therefore, the extent of optical mixing is increased greatly and mixing effect is unchanged even when the rod is shortened, thereby facilitating the manufacture and reducing the cost and size. |
