PURPOSE:To facilitate and standardize manufacture, to handle a variety of specifications and to improve the performance by arranging optical elements which are in the same polygonal plane shape in a plane on a base plate and coupling them optically. CONSTITUTION:Branching and coupling elements 1 and switching elements 2 which are in the same modified octagonal plane shape are fixed on the base plate 3 made of quartz, etc., so that oblique sides contact each other. Optical fibers 4 and 5 are coupled with the entrance or exit of the waveguide of respective elements optically and the exit of one element is positioned at the exit of the other at a contiguous part to reduce the transmission loss of light. An optical signal inputted from the input fiber 4 is mixed and branched by branching and coupling elements 1 and interrupted by switching elements. Thus, a variety of elements each having one function are arrayed according to specifications to meet even a complex specification, and respective elements having high precision are manufactured by standardization. |
