The device for grinding machining planar workpiece surfaces has a tool (8) which is fitted on a bearing means (5) which is arranged on a shaft (3) and bears on a supporting ring (9) fastened on a framework (1); a unit for fastening workpieces having a pressing apparatus (21) for pressing said workpieces against the tool (8); a pressing apparatus (33) for pressing the bearing means (5) against the supporting ring (9), which apparatus includes an element (34) which can be connected to the shaft (3) for axial displacement under a pressure to which a controlling element (35) is subjected. The pressing apparatus (33) for pressing the bearing means (5) is operatively connected to the pressing apparatus (21) for pressing workpieces.
