PURPOSE:To enable the position of a carriage to be controlled on a print dot basis, by affixing a magnetic material onto one side of a belt and recording the material with information indicative of position. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic material, e.g., a magnetic tape 8 is affixed to the back side of a timing belt 7, and information indicative of position is recorded in the tape 8 by a magnetic head. By rotation of pulleys 3, 4, the belt 1 is moved so that the carriage 6 fitted to the belt 1 is fed to a printing position. A magnetic head 9 reads the position information recorded in on belt 1. The moving position of the carriage 6 can be detected from magnetic recording position information of the belt 1 read by the magnetic head 9 when the carriage 6 is located at a home position. |
