The invention relates to a process for the preparation of furnace chambers, especially of coke oven chambers in coke oven batteries, before renewal of the refractory lining, which permits using a machine when breaking out (removing) the old lining. The principle of the invention is that, on the machine side of the coke oven battery, at least two of the vertical bearers are removed, after which an access platform for the working machine, for example a power shovel, is mounted in front of the thus exposed space in the battery wall, and that, in the prolongation of the axis of the access platform, on the floor of the oven chambers, two supporting platforms for the travel of the mechanical device are laid down and fastened.
